Discover Arts Award for schools

Achieve a ‘Discover’ Arts Award by exploring Bristol’s art collection. Find out about artists and their work, create some amazing art of your own on the theme of ‘Nature’ and then share what you have created.

Children will:

  • Discuss their own preferences in art
  • Find out about composition, colour and techniques
  • Discover the stories behind paintings
  • Compare and contrast art from different artists
  • Learn specialist art vocabulary
  • Experiment with art materials
  • Create an artwork on the theme of nature or animals
  • Share their artwork digitally and with each other
  • Achieve a Discover Arts Award

Suitable for: Year 3–6
Duration: 3 hours 30 minutes
Group size: Up to 35 pupils

We have one session available at 10.15am – 1.45pm (includes 30 minute lunch break)

FREE use of our lunch room is included in the cost of your session.

Arts Award

Arts Award Discover is the introductory award open to children and young people aged up to 25.

To achieve Discover arts award, children and young people discover the arts around them, find out about artists and their work and share their experiences with others, gaining a certificate at the end.

This award provides a great introduction to the arts and to other Arts Award levels. Taking part also supports a platinum level school Artsmark Award.

Additional information

Children will work in five groups. To get the most from your visit, please organise children into groups before your workshop begins.

Each group will require support from at least one adult. Recommended ratio: one adult for every six children.

You are welcome to take photographs. We’d love you to share pictures of your school trip with us on social media.

Eating and drinking is not permitted in the museum apart from the school lunch room. Crumbs attract pests and our collections are far too precious to be attacked!
