Assembly Rooms, Prince Street, by Thomas Leeson Rowbotham (1782-1853). The painting depicts the Assembly Rooms in 1826 – four years before the violent meetings held there between pro- and anti-slavery factions. These were conducted on the run-up to the ‘slavery election’ of 1830. © Bristol Culture
